Neuromuscular Re-Education in Miami, FL
As you heal from an injury, you may start to move your body in a different way to avoid discomfort or because you are acutely aware of the potential for re-injury. Over time, you become habituated to the new way of movement, and you may actually place yourself at greater risk for problems. Advanced Sport and Spine Therapy offers neuromuscular re-education services to men and women in Aventura, Kendall, Hialeah, and Fort Lauderdale and the surrounding areas to help them regain normal movement.
The fibrous tissues that develop as part of the healing process can develop into adhesions that limit your range of motion. Even when the adhesions are corrected with physical therapy, you may subconsciously learn to move your body differently to avoid pain or complete your routine tasks. Over time, you may cause additional injury by straining the surrounding tissues or overusing other parts of your body.
What is Neuromuscular Re-Education?
Neuromuscular re-education with a physical therapist helps you return to normal movement and avoid future injuries. The technique involves two phases. First, you re-learn the proper way to move your body. Second, you implement those movements into your daily life to recognize that the pain and limited range of motion no longer exists. In this sense, neuromuscular re-education is both a physical and emotional healing process.

The Procedure for Neuromuscular Re-Education
Neuromuscular re-education has two stages:
- Our therapist uses manual techniques to move the joint and muscles through a normal range of motion.
- You perform activities that have caused discomfort using a normal range of motion to build your confidence.
The sessions include a combination of exercises to improve balance, strength, conditioning, and stability. Your therapist may also use manual techniques to release tension in trigger points, improve joint mobility and lengthen muscles and ligaments.
Is the Procedure for Neuromuscular Re-Education Covered by My Insurance?
Neuromuscular re-education may be included under your insurance policy depending on your coverage. Our patient coordinator can help you determine the out-of-pocket costs. We will also work with you to maximize any benefits under your policy.
