Platelet rich plasma (PRP) is a rapidly evolving treatment that has been proven effective for treating musculoskeletal pain. At the Advanced Neuro and Spine Institute, our board-certified doctors are specially trained to maximize patient outcomes with PRP injections.

When Is Platelet Rich Plasma Recommended?

Platelet rich plasma injections have been proven effective for treating pain and inflammation associated with the following conditions:

  • Osteoarthritis
  • Rotator cuff tears
  • Pelvic pain
  • Tennis elbow
  • Ligament sprains
  • Tendonitis
  • Ankle sprains
  • Injuries to the back, neck, shoulder, spine, hips, and knees

How Is the Procedure for Platelet Rich Plasma Performed?

A small sample of your blood is drawn for the procedure. The blood is then placed in a centrifuge to separate the platelets from the other components in the blood. The concentrated plasma is extracted and injected directly into the treatment area. One to three injections are administered during each treatment, and your PRP treatment lasts one to two hours. Follow-up treatments are scheduled every two to three weeks over a six-month period. The PRP boosts your natural healing process, and because your own blood is used, there are virtually no complications or side effects.

What Are the Benefits of Platelet Rich Plasma?

No surgery or general anesthesia is required, and you resume your normal activities within a few hours. Platelet cells are used by your body to repair damage caused by injuries to the soft tissues. The platelet cells join with stem cells to intensify the body’s healing, thus making PRP injections a completely natural treatment for pain
